Would Sydney Lane Press be interested in publishing me? Should I be interested in Sydney Lane Press? What are the Sydney Lane Press author guidelines?
The following statements and questions will help you understand what we are looking for, what we are not looking for – and whether Sydney Lane Press is right for you!
- We don’t do romance, history, erotica, Christian living, business, and most other publishing categories – does your submission fit within the fiction categories of mystery, suspense and/or thriller?
- We aren’t Christian exclusive – but does your submission fit within a broad Judeo-Christian worldview that promotes honor, character, courage, and traditional values?
- We know new authors need an opportunity – but do you have a proven record of quality fiction that has demonstrated salability? (No minimum threshold but having sold five to ten thousand units per title is a good starting point.)
- We won’t rule out one-offs – but is your work character and series driven?
- We are realistic on marketing – have you built or begun to build a platform to reach your fans?
- We aren’t a vanity press or turnkey author service – but are you ready to share in publishing expenses with an understanding that we will divide profits – a profit-sharing model – rather than distribute royalties?
- If you have a brand new book, existing titles in a series is not a problem and is actually preferable – do you have the rights to your previous works? Printer files?
Let’s make this even clearer. Our model will work best with a published author that has sold ten thousand or more units per title in a series that (a) needs a new home; (b) has an anxiously awaiting audience; (c) has a smart, unique, intriguing character; and (d) has a new book ready to present to the world!
